A CULTURAL WATERFRONT MASTERPLAN
Galataport Masterplan is a cultural complex in Istanbul that is inspired by the urban block found in the surrounding city. The megablock holds characteristics of Istanbul that are important to how people live and experience the city. The building complex lifts itself off of the ground to provide more public space and to create unique public zones, such as the interior courtyards, raised plazas and diagonal promenades. These promenades direct the pedestrian views towards major monuments in the city including Hagia Sophia. A port and museum are intermixed into the complex, which is primarily composed of retail and office spaces. This masterplan will rejuvenate a greatly underutilized area in Istanbul.
